LeMay Car Museum
- Tacoma, WA
- Service client since 2010
PSF Mechanical designed and built the mechanical systems for this 165,000 square foot, four-story automotive museum. This facility boasts 15 galleries, an education center, theater, administrative offices, banquet and meeting halls, lobby, and gift shop. During the design-build process, PSF modified the proposed mechanical system with more cost effective, efficient, and environmentally-friendly results.
Unique design challenges included minimizing and coordination roof penetrations in the arched roof, and working with a building concept that precluded the use of rooftop mechanical systems. The arched roof and architectural features throughout the shell and core posed challenges such as the use of sound attenuation and placement of rooftop units. Major HVAC equipment was ground-mounted and utilizes below-grade concrete duct corridors for air distribution. Careful selection of equipment and minimal use of attenuators achieved the client’s desired acoustical performance while minimizing energy consumption from high-pressure duct attenuation. PSF maintains the client relationship through the service and maintenance of the systems.
