The Bullitt Center
- Seattle, WA
- Living Building Challenge
- Service client since 2011
The Bullitt Center is a six-story, 52,000 square foot commercial office building designed to be both energy-neutral and carbon-neutral. It is the largest net-zero commercial building in the world and has achieved certification through the International Living Building Institute’s Living Building Challenge.
PSF Mechanical was the design-assist engineer and worked closely with PAE Consulting to complete the complex mechanical systems for the building. Due to the environmental goals by the client for the building, various heating and plumbing systems were used to reach a final classification as a Living Building Challenge winner. These systems utilized radiant heating, specific window and shade systems to regulate heat, and a rainwater harvesting system. The red list of prohibited materials, including neoprene and PVC, made equipment procurement difficult but necessary to meet the needs and wants of the client. Due to the unique systems that were used, the project team worked closely with inspectors to make sure that the inspection and approval process went as smooth as possible and the project was completed successfully.
PSF also provided a number of service needs for the building on an as-needed basis.
