First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue Education Wing

  • Bellevue, WA
  • LEED Gold
  • Service client since 2007

The First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue is a four-story, 55,036 square foot facility. First starting in 1956 in downtown Bellevue, the church moved to its current location in the 1960s and has gone through multiple updates, including a large expansion. The “Quiet Conform” design emphasis of this educational space within the church aids in classroom instruction by providing noise reduction, high indoor air quality, and thermal comfort control. Energy and maintenance cost savings were achieved by using air-side economizers, an efficient LoadMatch system, and constant volume air distribution. Budget concerns and TCO were addressed with an innovative system design resulting in 40% less piping material and 50% less pump energy as compared with conventional four-pipe systems.

Unique design challenges included neighborhood design restrictions that precluded the use of any rooftop equipment and other working methods, and heavy ventilation loads necessitated high-efficiency means for heating and cooling outside air. Acoustical performance was required to meet classroom and property-line goals.
